Blood drive at Barclay

Red Cross will be hosting a blood drive at the Barclay School Café on Wednesday, April 22 from 10 a.m. – 3 p.m.

As of March 13, over 6,346 blood drives have been canceled as a result of COVID-19, totaling over 200,000 units of blood nationally. In New York, 420 blood drives have been canceled, totally 10,981 units lost.

With each unit of blood assisting up to three patients, as many as 600,000 lives have been impacted nationally in only 10 days.

The Red Cross has been following CDC guidelines and taking additional precautions to ensure the safety of donors and staff at every blood drive. The organization has begun to pre-screen all individuals by taking their temperature before they enter a blood drive and only collecting blood from individuals who are healthy and feeling well at the time of donation.

Other safety precautions taken during blood drives include:

  • Employees wearing gloves
  • Routinely wiping down donor-touched areas
  • Using sterile collection sets for every donation
  • Preparing the arm for donation with an aseptic scrub
  • Implementing additional spacing to incorporate social distancing measures

If you are healthy and feeling well, we encourage you visit the BCSD blood drive to donate. You can make an appointment by visiting RedCrossBlood.org or calling 1-800-733-2767.
