School Update

BCSD families,

I realize you may be wondering about our next steps given the updated NYS Department of Health guidance. As the guidance indicates, we can continue to bring back our PreK-5 students four days a week on Monday, April 19 as planned. While I am hopeful our most recent plans of bringing all students back will still be possible, the community transmission rate outlined in the new guidance currently prohibits decreased spacing. At this time, current guidance prevents secondary students (grades 6-12) from returning 4 days a week.

The new guidance establishes our county health department as the guideline enforcement agency. I will be meeting with Dr. Mendoza today in hopes that we have some flexibility to safely move forward for all students, including grades 6-12 at some point soon.

For more information on our Spring Reopening Plan and a survey to provide feedback please see our Reopening Schools page

Thank you for your flexibility, patience and support as we work to do our best for our students. While it is important to get back to school as we know it, it is also important that we continue to have a thoughtful process with safety at the forefront.

Sincerely,
Sean Bruno, Superintendent of Schools
