BCSD recognized as one of the "Best Communities for Music Education"

Brockport Central School District has been honored with the Best Communities for Music Education designation from The NAMM Foundation for its outstanding commitment to music education. Now in its 24th year, the Best Communities for Music Education designation is awarded to districts that demonstrate outstanding achievement in efforts to provide music access and education to all students.

This is the eighth time Brockport Central School District has been honored with the designation. Katelyn Marasco, K-12 Music Department Chair, wrote, “The BCSD Music Department faculty are appreciative of the support we receive from our administration, the Board of Education, and the Brockport community. It is obvious that music education and performance are a vital part of our school district.”

This year's awards program acknowledges and celebrates innovative schools and districts that have developed a stronger presence for music education on campus and in the lives of students. Given the impact of COVID on traditional in-person learning, researchers at The Music Research Institute at the University of Kansas, in conjunction with The NAMM Foundation, created a new way for districts and schools to share their stories with a special “More to Start” supplemental survey, completed by BCSD Department Chair Katelyn Marasco. The supplement helped researchers understand access and entry points for students to begin or resume their musical journeys and the challenges and opportunities in the post-pandemic classroom.
