Resources for community & school violence

Dear Brockport Staff and Families,

Our thoughts and prayers continue to be with the families, students, staff, employees and communities of Buffalo, New York and Uvalde, Texas, as they mourn the loss of their loved ones. These horrific and senseless tragedies are difficult to process. We understand these events cause tremendous stress and worry, and we are here to support any student or staff member who may be in need of assistance. If needed, we ask that parents contact your child’s principal or school counselor, and staff members reach out to a direct supervisor.

Below you will find resources particular to these events that have been widely shared by concerned mental health and school professionals:

National Child Traumatic Stress Network – School Shooting Resources

Safe and Sound Schools – Founded by parents who lost children at Sandy Hook School in collaboration with the National Center for School Mental Health, Safe and Sound is a national non-profit school safety advocacy and resource center that provides research-based tools and supports for crisis prevention, response and recovery, helping to protect every school, every student, every day.

As always, our focus will be on the safety of all members of our learning community. These tragedies are not acceptable, and this is not the world we want for our children. All children should feel safe to come to school each day. As a District, we will continue to work to bring people together to ensure that all students and families have a voice and feel welcomed and safe. I ask for your continued partnership as we work to ensure the safety of our children. If you see something, please say something. Our Safety Tipline (1-877-453-0006) is an anonymous way for you to share your concerns, and they will be addressed promptly.

Thank you,

Sean Bruno, Superintendent
