Their Time Is Now: 3 BHS students place top 3 in regional competition

Three students representing Brockport Central School District and Monroe 2-Orleans BOCES Career and Technical Education placed in the top three in the SkillsUSA Regional Competition on Tuesday, March 7.

From Brockport, Eloy "EJ" Soto (Carpentry) was awarded first in Carpenter Assistant Basic, William Ross (Outdoor Powersports Technology) placed second in Small Engine Service Basic and Tiana Yaw-Owen (Cosmetology) came in third in Esthetics Skin Care.

To qualify for regionals, students must be SkillsUSA members and advance from the local competitions held at WEMOCO CTE Center. Prior to competing at regionals, students are required to submit a one-page resume, outlining their accomplishments and work in their programs which helped qualify them for certain parts of their competition.

SkillsUSA partners teachers and industry professionals with students who are preparing for careers in trades and technical/skilled service occupations.  The theme of the 2022-23 Academic Year is “SkillsUSA: Our Time is Now", promoting that these students have the tools, confidence and are ready to progress in their education or be employed in their field.

Congratulations, Eloy, William  and Tiana on all that you have accomplished and best of luck in all of your future endeavors!
