    Q: What is the criteria for a child to be eligible to attend the UPK program?

    Your family must reside within the Brockport Central School District and your child’s birthday must be between December 2nd, 2019 and December 1st, 2020.

    Q: Can my student attend UPK at an outside agency?

    There are a limited number of openings provided for outside agencies that qualify under

    the NYS Grant. The location information will be listed on the Preference Letter that will be included with the registration packet mailed in December.

    Q: How long will children be in school each day/week?

    The UPK program is required to be five days a week.

    Our half day program is 2 ½ hours per day and our full day program is 5 ½ hours per day. The Ginther School's UPK program times are:

    • UPK Full Day 8:45 a.m. – 2:30 p.m.
    • UPK AM 8:45 a.m. - 11:15 a.m.
    • UPK PM 12:00 a.m. - 2:30 p.m.

    Our outside agency locations offer either full-day or half-day options, depending on the location. These locations will determine their own schedule.

    Q: What will be the focus of the curriculum and will there be specials like in Kindergarten?

    The focus of the curriculum will be literacy, based on the NYS Pre-School Standards, but there will also be math, science and social studies lessons. Physical education, art and music experiences are provided within the UPK classroom.

    Q: Is there any cost to families for UPK?

    There are no direct costs to families for the UPK academic program at either Ginther School or the outside agencies. Families are required to provide transportation to and from UPK. School supplies are provided at no cost and snacks are provided to students each day. Lunch is provided for full day students.

    Q: Will there be a lottery?

    A lottery is required when there are too many families requesting the same program and/or location.

    Q: How do I apply for UPK?

    The application of interest will be sent directly to families that are currently in our student database in November. Please, return the form by December 22, 2023. If you notify us of interest in the UPK program, you will receive a registration packet in the middle of January.
