A morning ride brought an unexpected surprise for Brockport bus driver Mrs. Denny this week.

Cooper, a student rider who was selected by his fellow bus riders to serve as Mrs. Denny’s “co-pilot” for the 2026-27 school year, boarded the bus eager for her to turn up Warm 101.3.

“Mrs. Denny, hurry up, you have to put on Warm 101.3,” Cooper told her.

The station was already playing. Moments later, Cooper revealed why he was so excited.

“Mrs. Denny, that’s my grandma talking,” he said.

Cooper’s grandmother was giving Mrs. Denny an on-air shoutout. She shared how much Cooper enjoys his role as co-pilot and recognized Mrs. Denny for making his bus rides safe and enjoyable.

For Mrs. Denny, who has worked for the Brockport Central School District for 13 years, creating that kind of environment is an important part of the job.

“I have so many special children on my bus, and I just adore and treasure them,” Mrs. Denny said. “I do things on my bus to make the children feel important and special.”

One way she does that is by giving older students opportunities to serve as helpers. They assist younger riders as they learn what is expected aboard Bus 6. Cooper worked hard to earn the support of his fellow riders before being selected as this year’s co-pilot.

“He is awesome,” Mrs. Denny said. “He is such a joy and truly a great, caring helper on the bus.”

The unexpected shoutout gave Mrs. Denny a chance to hear how much her daily care means to Cooper and his family.

“It made my day,” she said. “It reminded me that I am so blessed and fortunate to have my kiddos love and respect me as much as I do them! It just made me realize, I make a difference and that I am appreciated!”
